Baby, look at them now.....................

It is amazing how time takes it's toll.  I look at the before and after photos and can tell those that used their pay packet as "beer coupons" instead of   payments.  They may try and tell you it was the hard yakka they put in while in boats, if you fall for that you will fall for anything.

What a fabulous period in my life (to date) - such a waste of more than 20 odd years!! Would do it all again in the blink of an eye (sigh)!!!It\'s great to be back in The Squadron - even if only in spirit & would be glad to hear from anyone - luckily I can still type & talk - nothing much changes - we all still seem to be able to "Shoot the Breeze" pretty well .

To quote a famous passage " 'Twas the best of times 'Twas the worst of times". Far from popular opinion my time in the RAN and then The Squadron was the proudest time of my life, only surpassed by the arrival of my two children. My eventual leaving may have been by mutual relief, but I will always be proud to say I served on those black bastards (oops there I go again). This is a great site, some of the comments are funny some are deep all are made by people proud of what they achieved in let's face it adverse conditions, as big Wally used it to apologise for those he may have hurt, so I apologise for those I may have offended, as some one else says "or not that dickhead" I am aware I may have fallen into that category for some, but for those that really knew/know me they will attest I wasn't always myself. There that's another of the 12 steps on the program done !!!!. Now as someone else said "drink more Piss".

I miss the characters like WOMT Bungy Williams, Jumper Cross my instructors, Arab, Checkers who entertained us with his stories when on duty, Rugrat with flower power overalls and way he gave a certain stores chief a lot of grief at Zetland. Or the times on parade when a huge fart would suddenly erupt from the senior sailors ranks and echo down Neutral Bay. There was a lot of very good people there and I am proud to have known them. It is a shame that nobody has ever told story of what it was like as a submariner in Oberon class submarines, not the serious side but the funny side of it.

A great life that I would not never want to change. I know there were  'whinging' times but I now only remember the great runs ashore, good mates and the humorous times both at sea and ashore. It is not until these 'twilight' years that you really appreciate the people, camaraderie, life long friends and good fortune that we were able to be part of submarine history. It was a privilege to know so many great people. Thank you. Great to see some of you at Subcons etc.
