Lieutenant Commander W. H. Wiltshire RAN


Horden Wiltshire was born in Albury NSW in 1967. He joined the Royal Australian Naval College in 1985 to undertake degree studies. He completed a Bachelor of Engineering (Naval Architecture)(Hons) from the University of New South Wales graduating at the end of 1988.

He commenced seaman officer training after completing his degree and undertook stage two training onboard HMAS TORRENS. He was awarded his bridge watchkeeping certificate in HMAS SUCCESS in 1990. In January 1991, he commenced submarine training at HMAS PLATYPUS and was awarded his "dolphins" later that year.

Lieutenant Wiltshire joined HMAS OVENS as Torpedo Officer where he remained until the end of 1992. In 1993 he joined the Collins program, initially with the Submarine Sea Training Group and in 1994 as the Operations Officer of HMAS COLLINS.

Promoted to Lieutenant Commander in January 1997, Horden joined HMAS FARNCOMB as the Executive Officer for two years. In 1999 he successfully completed the Submarine Command Course (Perisher) in the Netherlands before assuming command of SHEEAN at the end of the year.

Lieutenant Commander Wiltshire completed a Masters of Business Administration in 1993. He lives in Adelaide with his wife Nicole and daughters Ellen and Emma. He has been a serious student of traditional karate for 19 years and is a keen chess player.
